My statement for "state of play", our latest group show at The Sprinkler Factory Gallery:

The two pieces I show at “state of play” take advantage of the scale of the Sprinkler Factory Gallery, and are examples of my current experiments.  Both of these pieces are experiments in technique and materials.  To me they show enough promise for further exploration.

I created “Secret” for installation in a quiet, natural outdoor setting. Pairs of people often present an outward public view of their interaction that is different from the private one they have between them.

My canvas “Shinjuku” results from my many experiences in and around Shinjuku railway station in Tokyo. More than three million people are reputed to be served by Shinjuku station each day. Scanning the ever-shifting scene as one negotiates a path through the oh-so-polite mass of weaving humanity, it can be difficult for the eye of a foreigner to interpret and recognize much at all from the visual overload. Time and scene change as the eye scans to and fro.
